Few and far between: Broadband Rollout Roundup 31/08/2012

It’s been yet another quiet week on the Broadband Rollout Roundup front – BT’s busy making sure its London 2012 network stays fully functional and operational throughout the Paralympics and has only had time to mention FTTC availability in three areas this week.

While we’re on the subject of BT, it might be a good time to review the forthcoming price changes that will take effect from the 5th of January 2013.

If you’re a BT broadband customer you should be getting these details through the post or via email tomorrow – save yourself the bother and read up on them now. If you want to avoid paying over the odds for BT line rental next year, we’d advise you to start saving now.

Elsewhere in the UK, Superfast Cornwall has reported availability of fibre broadband in new locales and Digital Region in South Yorkshire is announcing FTTC availability at new postcodes.

This then is Broadband Rollout Roundup for the week ending 31/08/2012:

Few and far between: Broadband Rollout Roundup 31/08/2012

Broadband Rollout Roundup: BT announces three new areas for fibre

Just three new fibre locations this week from BT and all of them in England. Some Staffordshire residents in Leek can count themselves among the lucky few as FTTP is available in some areas connected to the exchange, alongside regular FTTC.

Leek (FTTC/P) Staffordshire Moorlands District

Desborough (FTTC) Kettering District (B)

Burgh Heath (FTTC) Reigate and Banstead District (B)

Residents of Desborogh in Northamptonshire and those living in the Burgh Heath region of Reigate and Banstead, Surrey should contact BT now to see if new fibre lines are being connected to their nearest street cabinets.

Superfast Cornwall: St. Columb Major now 34 per cent covered

Superfast Cornwall has announced that FTTC fibre broadband is now available in parts of St. Columb Major. Roughly 34 per cent of the town is now covered with future rollout due to take place in December.

Rollout is due to kick off in Newquay, 39 per cent of which currently has access to fibre – areas in Lusty Glaze, Trenance, Trencreek, Trevelgue, Pentire and Porth are currently covered.

Digital Region: Six new postcodes in South Yorkshire can sign up for FTTC

Digital Region has announced the next set of locations where FTTC broadband services on its network will be available. These are as follows:

  •     Barnsley – S63 9LQ
  •     Doncaster – DN6 8DG, DN6 8HE
  •     Sheffield – S2 5HP, S2 5HE, S2 5HD
