Freesat adds MTV’s Viva and the Travel Channel in Spring break

MTV’s music-and-entertainment channel Viva has boarded UK free-to-air satellite TV service Freesat alongside the Travel Channel.

On channel 146, Viva mixes a daytime diet of chart music with evenings of comedy and reality TV, from SpongeBob Squarepants to Teen Mom and Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management.

At 405, the recently refreshed Travel Channel flavours reality and factual shows with a taste of travel, from Bizarre Foods and Ghost Adventures to Trip Flip (see Travel Channel’s new look below).

Paul Gilshan, said Freesat’s director of marketing, said: “We’re proud to be increasing our line-up with the addition of such a hugely popular channel as Viva.

“Having recently celebrated our three millionth sale,  Viva further strengthens Freesat’s entertainment genre as we continue to bring greater subscription-free choice to audiences right across the UK.”

“We are delighted Travel Channel is joining Freesat. It’s a hugely popular service with a strong following that strengthens and complements Freesat’s existing line-up. With Travel Channel joining today, the breadth of choice for our viewers, for free, has never been better.”

Freesat has already had a busy 2013 by the quiet standards of 2012, adding YouTube to its TV-plus-broadband Free Time from Freesat service, and rolling out a new digital TV recorder  with built-in WiFi.
