Freesat Awards 2012 pits TV stars vs real stars

Britain’s Got Talent, Stargazing Live, Strictly Come Dancing, The Million Pound Drop and This Morning go head-to-head in the Freesat Awards 2012 next month.

The fourth year of the awards will see 53 nominees compete across ten categories, including coveted TV and radio Channel of the Year titles and Best Live TV Programme.

Brand new awards for 2012 include Best TV Presenter, Best Live TV Programme and Best New TV Series.

In the Audience Vote Award, The Great British Bake Off takes on Educating Essex, The X Factor and Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and eight others for the viewers’ plaudits – voting is open until Friday, May 11.

Neil Midgley, chair of this year’s judging panel said: “These brilliant shortlists show just how successful the Freesat Awards have become in showcasing the people and programmes that viewers love.

Even with all their experience of TV and radio, our judges are going to find it hard to pick winners – not least in our new categories for 2012 of Best Live TV Programme, Best New TV Series and Best TV Presenter. May the best chef, astronomer or midwife win!”

The Freesat Awards 2012 will be presented at a VIP ceremony in central London on May 23.
