Freesat Awards 2014 open for entries

Freesat has opened entries for its annual awards this year. The satellite platform is looking for broadcasters, channels and producers to make entries for a number of categories.

In 2013, ITV took home the top award of the night, ‘Freesat Channel of the Year’. Judges praised the channel for discovering a ‘new class and confidence’ in its programming, resulting in a ‘resurgence of break out hits and high-end drama’.

ITV’s Broadchurch was named Best of British (TV programme or series). BBC Two’s Twenty Twelve won ‘Best TV Sitcom’ and The Food Network UK was awarded ‘Best Specialist Channel’. BBC 5 Live was recognised for ‘Best News Channel of the Year’.

There are twelve categories to enter in total this year: Best of British: TV Programme or Series; Freesat Channel of the Year; Best TV Sitcom; Best Factual TV Programme or Series; Best TV Drama; Best Live TV Programme or Series; Best Children’s TV Programme or Series; Best Specialist Channel; Best Digital Radio Channel and Best News Channel.

There are two further categories that will be put to a public vote to decide. These are: Broadcast Personality of the Year and Best British Soap.

Entries must be made by 19 March this year via the Freesat Awards website – http://www.freesat.co.uk/awards and are free to enter. The winners will be unveiled at a ceremony to take place on 17 June with an invite only VIP audience of celebrities, media and broadcasters.
