Freesat poaches Sony SAB from pay-TV

Hindi entertainment channel Sony South Asia Broadcasting has joined free satellite TV platform Freesat, after four years as a subscription channel on Sky.

Chidiya Ghar on SAB-TVThe family-friendly comedy and entertainment channel takes the first slot in Freesat’s International section, at channel 660.

SAB is part of the Sony Entertainment Network Asia, and is likely to be followed onto Freesat by stablemates including SETindia and MAXtelevision.

Tony Lit, SEN’s head of European business, said: “We are excited to announce the launch of Sony SAB on Freesat, the fastest growing TV platform in the UK, as it allows our viewers even more ways to access the award winning comedy channel.

“Sony SAB is a true family entertainment channel which offers programming to the South Asian population in the UK which is not to be found on any other channel or network.

“With this launch, we are taking the next step in expanding the availability of our network of channels, with much more to come.”

Sony SAB remains available to Sky viewers on channel 816, reaching potential viewers in more than 13 million UK homes.
