Freesat has upgraded its Showcase content discovery service, bringing more choices and categories like Drama and Comedy to the table.
Both the Freesat Freetime TV interface and the iOS and Android apps are getting a fresh new look, one that will make it easier for viewers to find something to watch.
Showcase offers Freesat viewers an overview of popular content that’s available on-demand and what’s coming up next on the leading channels. Freesat staff members choose the content that makes it to Showcase, which is by and large shows from the BBC, ITV and Channel 4.
Apparently one in six programmes watched or recorded on the Freesat mobile app come from the recommendations made by Showcase makes and Freesat wants to make it even easier to use.
Emma Scott, Freesat’s Managing Director, said: “We are immensely proud of Showcase, and believe it offers something different to our customers and viewers. TV is created by people, for people, and we firmly believe that recommendations from other people are the best way for viewers to find something great to watch.”
As well as serving up a greater number of recommendations, the new-look version of Showcase makes it easy to spot new content thanks to a blue ‘new’ chevron that sits in the top right corner of programme icons.
New programme categories include Drama, Entertainment, Comedy, Documentaries and Children, making it easy for parents to set mass recordings of Peppa Pig while setting reminders for X Factor and Doctor Who.
Scott added: “Customers are using and returning to Showcase to inspire their viewing, ensuring they never miss anything. As a neutral yet informed and enthusiastic source, Showcase helps them find something to watch. It is really changing viewing behaviour for our already loyal customers and we are delighted to be able to expand Showcase to make it even more valuable and compelling for them.”
The new-look Showcase is rolling out to connected Freetime from Freesat boxes now and updated apps are now available from the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
