Game of Thrones seasons 1-5 coming to BT TV on a buy-to-own basis

The first four seasons of Game of Thrones are now available to order on BT TV and once its finished its broadcast run on Sky, season five will be up for grabs too.

Thanks to a deal done with HBO, BT TV customers will be able to relive every moment of the critically acclaimed and phenomenally violent fantasy epic, based on the weighty novels of George R R Martin.

In a sneaky move worthy of Roose Bolton, the BT-HBO deal sees Game of Thrones coming to BT TV ahead of its arrival on TalkTalk TV. While Sky TV and Now TV are still first in line to get the new episodes, seasons 1-4 are currently not available to watch on an on-demand basis.

Alex Green, director of BT TV, said: “This is yet another fantastic first for our customers. We are committed to offering the widest choice of on demand and live content, with pricing and flexibility to suit all our customers.

“The new deal with HBO comes at the perfect time for people who want to catch up with world-class TV shows over the long Bank Holiday weekend. But of course you get to keep them so you can watch over and over again.”

All episodes can be viewed instantly on BT TV set top boxes and through BT’s desktop and mobile apps

Prices for episodes and seasons have not yet been released and it’s not yet known if any of the content will be available to buy in HD. BT spokespeople told us that the new HBO content will be available to buy from midnight tonight at the latest.

It’s also not known if BT will send you hard copies of your purchases in the post – which is currently the case with BT Box Office – should you leave BT.

If bloody high fantasy isn’t your thing, the HBO deal sees BT TV customers also able to watch the first season of crime drama True Detective plus every episode of comedy series Entourage. The second season of True Detective is due to air on Sky Atlantic next month.
