Moving home can be a picnic basket of little problems to solve, but TalkTalk customers can have a smooth move and you might end up £25 better off.
TalkTalk HomeMove is free in most cases, and lets you set up your move through a simple online service.
You can check which broadphone, and TV services are available at your new address, and arrange a switchover date.
TalkTalk TV customers will get a £25 credit to their account if they continue the service when moving home, and the service is flexible, so you can change dates if you need to.
What information do I need to order TalkTalk HomeMove?
TalkTalk will need to know the full address and postcode of your new home, and your moving date, plus an email address and alternative contact number (preferably a mobile) which won’t change when you move.
You will also need to tell TalkTalk what broadband, TV and phone plan you would like at your new home, and what boosts you’d like.
When can I start my TalkTalk HomeMove?
Start at least 14 days before you move, if you can. This is the minimum amount of time for TalkTalk to make sure your old service is cancelled on the day you move.
TalkTalk aims to get your services up and running in two or three weeks: you can select your activation date online to suit your moving schedule.
There may be a delay if there’s a shortage of engineers in your area, more work is required to set up your line, or you miss your initial appointment.
What will happen next?
TalkTalk will send you a confirmation email and keep you updated on the progress of your order via texts or emails, as you requested.
You’ll also receive a Welcome Pack for your new address as the move date comes closer, with extra details on how to pack up and reinstall your TalkTalk kit.
Can I upgrade my TalkTalk services when I move house?
You can save money by choosing Value Line Rental – £144 for the whole year when you pay in advance, instead of £174 if you pay monthly.
You can upgrade to Superpowered Fibre broadband if you’re moving to a fibre area – the HomeMove page will tell you if you can get it and how fast it could be.
Any TalkTalk customer can upgrade to TalkTalk Plus TV, with a free TalkTalk YouView box and thousands of hours of films and TV available instantly.
Can I self-install broadband, phone and TalkTalk TV at my new home?
In most cases, you should be able to reinstall your old TalkTalk broadband modem, home phone, phone socket microfilters and TalkTalk TV box at your new address with no problems and no engineer visit.
Once connected, your equipment will come online automatically when TalkTalk activates your broadband service.
Your TalkTalk TV box will continue to receive Freeview HD channels via your TV aerial, even if your broadband is not active.
What if I need an BrightSparks engineer visit?
It should be possible to arrange for a BrightSparks engineer to visit if you need a new phone socket, you need to install a fibre broadband modem, or there are other problems.
This will be free, unless you’re having your TalkTalk TV service set up, which will cost £50.
Will I get a new TalkTalk router when I move?
Not usually, but if your router is not performing as it should, or it’s a very old model (such as a Tiscali router) then you’ll be sent a free replacement.
The HomeMove online interface will automatically run checks on your router when you place your order to make sure it’s functioning.
Will I need to sign a new TalkTalk contract?
Yes, but you won’t pay any charges if you are terminating the old contract inside the minimum term (unless you’re downgrading your package, or cancel fibre broadband in a fibre broadband area).
New contract lengths depend on your TalkTalk products:
- Non TV package to non TV package (e.g. Essentials, Plus): 12 month contract
- Plus (phone and broadband only) to Plus TV: 24 month contract
- Essentials to Plus TV: 18 month contract
- Plus TV to Plus TV: 18 month contract
- Plus TV to Plus TV and ordering new equipment: 18 month contract
