Who has the rights to the 2014/15 Scottish Professional Football League matches?

Coverage of Scottish Premiership games is currently split between Sky Sports, BT Sport and the BBC.
Sky Sports and BT Sport will continue to showcase the very best of SPFL League action, between them screening 70 live matches this season, including at least 15 Rangers games from the Scottish Championship and the four Edinburgh derbies in the Scottish Championship.

The BBC will show 16 games on BBC ALBA from the Championship, Scottish League 1 and League 2.

How can I find out which games are on Sky Sports, BT Sport or BBC ALBA?

The SPFL keeps a list of fixtures which tell you at a glance which games are being shown on Sky Sports, BT Sport and BBC ALBA.

Can I watch the Scottish Professional Football League in HD or 3D?

Sky Sports and BT Sport show all of their games in high definition.

Sky viewers will need a £5.25/month HD subscription to watch games in high definition on Sky Sports while Virgin TV viewers will need to pay an extra £7/month to get Sky Sports in HD.

BT Sport HD costs £15/month on Sky TV and Virgin TV. If you’re a Sky TV customer taking BT Broadband or you’re a BT TV customer with BT Sport, then you can get BT Sport 1, BT Sport 1 and ESPN in HD for an extra £3/month on top of whatever you’re paying for TV, broadband and line rental.

Neither Sky or BT currently show any Scottish Professional Football League in 3D.

BBC ALBA is available to all Virgin TV subscrinbers no matter which set of channels they sign up for.

You can sign up for both Sky Sports and BT Sport with Virgin Media.

Virgin TV customers can get all of the Sky Sports channels in one bundle as the Sky Sports Collection, which works out better value for money than taking either Sky Sports 1 or Sky Sports 2 on their own.

This costs £27.50/month with all Virgin TV packages, apart from Virgin TV M, where it costs £34.75/month.

You’ll have to pay an extra £7/month if you want to get Sky Sports in HD.

BT Sport is available with all Virgin TV options. This gives you all of the BT Sport channels in SD and HD channels. There’s currently no way to just take BT Sport in SD from Virgin Media.

BT Sport costs £15/month with all Virgin TV packages, with the exception of Virgin TV XL (£31/month), which gives you BT Sport HD for no extra cost.

How can I watch the Scottish Professional Football League on BT TV (BT Vision+)

BBC ALBA is free to view for BT TV customers with a BT Vision+ box.

Both Sky Sports and BT Sport are also available with BT Vision+ box – provided you can get BT Infinity.

BT Infinity is BT’s FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet)-based broadband service. According to the most recent figures from BT, Infinity is available in over 3 million UK homes.

If you’re able to get BT Infinity then you can get Sky Sports and BT Sport with the BT Vision+ box. If you can’t get BT Infinity but you can get BT Broadband, then you can get BT Sport with BT Vision+ – but not Sky Sports.

If superfast BT Infinity is available in your area, here’s how the cost of Sky Sports and BT Sport breaks down.

Both Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 on their own cost £15.50/month with BT Vision+. Combined with the required TV Essentials package (£5/month) and BT Infinity 1 – the cheapest fibre-based service – plus line rental (£30.99/month) this works out at £51.49/month.

If you want both channels, which you probably will given that Sky Sports 2 shows Premier League games on Super Sundays, then you can take both Sky Sports 1 and 2 with BT Vision+ and BT Infinity 1. The total combined price is £56.99/month.

BT Sport is included free with BT Infinity as standard. You get BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN in SD for no extra cost. If you want the HD channels, that’ll cost you an extra £3/month.

Currently, you can’t get Sky Sports 1 or 2 in HD with BT Vision+ nor can you get Sky Sports 3-5 or Sky Sports F1.

There’s also a one-off £35 activation fee whichever combination of channels you go for.

BBC ALBA is free to view on your BT TV YouView+ box.

No Sky Sports channels are currently available with the YouView+ box.

The BT Sport channels are bundled free with BT Broadband.

The cheapest way to get BT Sport with BT Broadband and a BT TV YouView+ box is to get TV Essential (£5/month), BT Broadband with line rental (£16.99/month). This all works out at £30.99/month.

You can get BT Sport 1, 2 and ESPN in HD for an extra £3/month, provided you can get BT Infinity fibre-based broadband.

The cheapest BT TV with BT Infinity deal – TV Essential (£5), BT Infinity 1 with line rental (£30.99), which totals £35.99/month. With the HD channels this rises to £38.99/month. All BT TV packages require a one-off £35 payment.

Taken with Essentials TV (£24.45/month) Sky Sports costs £54.45/month. The more expensive Plus TV service (£34.45/month) costs £64.45/month when you add the Sky Sports Boost.
As the Essentials TV box doesn’t come with a hard drive, you can’t record any Scottish games. The Plus TV box comes with a 350GB hard drive which will let you store up to 200 hours of SD programmes.

You can’t record any Sky Sports matches at the moment but you will be able to record games shown on BBC ALBA.

If you’ve got a Now TV Box connected to your Freeview or Freesat TV then you’ll be able to access Sky Sports with a Day Pass (£9.99/day) but aside from that you probably won’t be getting any other Scottish games on a subscription-free.

BT Broadband customers with Chromecast can download the iOS and Android BT Sport apps and cast live streams to their TV screen when they’re connected to same WiFi network.

Sky subscribers can watch all of their Sky Sports channels on Sky Go via broadband, WiFi or 3G, on PC, Mac, iOS selected Android devices and Xbox 360. PlayStation 4 support for Sky Go is arriving later this year.

If you’re not a Sky TV subscriber you can sign up for a Now TV Day Pass (£9.99/day) to watch matches online on a pay per view basis.

If you’ve got BT Broadband but you don’t take out any of the BT TV packages, you can log in to BT Sport online and stream games on your desktop or laptop. Alternatively you can watch games on your phone or tablet with the iOS and Android BT Sport apps.

The Scottish Premier League also has its own YouTube channel, splofficial, carrying highlights, pre and post-match interviews, and behind the scenes features.
