How to get Now TV – Streaming online, on your phone and on your TV

Want the best that Sky TV has to offer but don’t want it, can’t afford it, or can’t get a dish fitted? Then Now TV should be right up your alley. 

Now TV is an on-demand streaming video service for people who don’t want a traditional monthly subscription, or a contract that has Sky at the top. There’s no obligation to sign up for longer than a month, no connection fee or lengthy installation process. 

This feature is all about how you can access the service across various devices, what browsers you can use and what you’ll need to have installed.

How do I get Now TV from Sky?

You can register online at www.nowtv.com. You’ll need debit or credit card details to hand and any voucher codes you may have to start using the service. If you’re signing up for a Now TV Entertainent or Movies Pass, you can qualify for a free 14-day trial. 

How much does Now TV cost?

Depending on what you want to watch, the cost of Now TV can be as little as £6.99/day or as much as £31.99/month.

Can I get Now TV on my phone or tablet?

  • iOS – If you’ve at least got an iPhone 3GS, iPad (1st gen) iPod Touch (4th gen) and you’re running iOS 6 (or higher), then you’ll be able to run Now TV. 
  • Android – There’s no exhaustive list of supported Android devices available from Now TV, but generally, if you’re running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher and your device has a processor that’s faster than 1GHz, you have 1GB of RAM or more, and a screen resolution of at least 480×800, then you should be able to easily run the Now TV app on your phone. 

Now TV isn’t currently available for Windows Phone, BlackBerry 10 and other mobile platforms. 

Which browsers work with Now TV?

As of April 2015, you can’t watch Now TV through Chrome. This is due to Google binning support for Microsoft Silverlight, which Now TV uses. 

This means you’re limited to Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari on Windows (XP-8) and Mac (10.6 Snow Leopard or later) machines. 

Can I watch Now TV on Chromecast?

Pro tip: Because Now TV works with Chromecast, you can easily watch content on your TV while keeping one of the registered device slots free on your account. Yes. Both the iOS and Android Now TV apps are Chromecast-compatible. 

What’s the Now TV box?

The Now TV Box is an inexpensive mini streamer that connects to your TV via HDMI and gives you access to the full suite of Now TV services. 

There’s currently two versions of the Now TV box, the original white version and a revamped 2015 edition

Can I watch Now TV on Roku?

Yes. You can get Now TV working on the Roku LT (Purple), Roku 2 XS (Black), Roku 3, Roku Streaming Stick and the new Roku 2. 

Can I watch Now TV on Apple TV?

Yes – but you can’t currently sign up for a weekly or monthly Sports pass through your Apple TV box.  
You can still access live Sky Sports content through Now TV on Apple TV – but right now you can only do this with £6.99 daily passes. 

Can I watch Now TV on my games console?

There are Now TV apps for Xbox One and Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. 

Can I watch Now TV on my YouView box?

Yes – but only selected content. Live movies aren’t available on YouView and only selected on-demand films can be watched. Now TV Entertainment and Sports passes don’t currently work on YouView. 

Can I watch Now TV on my smart TV?

Right now, LG smart TVs have exclusive access to Now TV. Unless your smart TV comes from Korea and it’s got ‘LG’ on it, you won’t be able to get Now TV. 

How many devices can I register with Now TV?

You can have up to four devices registered with Now TV at any one time.

What is the maximum number of Now TV streams I can have running at once?

While you can have up to four dvices registered you can only stream on up to two devices simultaneously. 

What’s the minimum download speed I need to get Now TV working?

You’ll need at least 2.5Mbps for Now TV to work on a fixed line connection. When streaming over 3G or 4G, you’ll need at least 180kbps.
