How to get Sky Sports and BT Sport for cheap on Sky TV

We show you how to get all of the televised Premier League games for the 2016/17 season on Sky TV for the least amount of money.

Both Sky and BT has shelled out millions for TV rights to the next three Premier League seasons. Between them they’ll be broadcasting 172 games; Sky Sports showing 126 matches with BT Sport showing the remaining 46.

While premium pay TV sports packages aren’t cheap, you can save a bit of money by only ordering the Sky Sports 1 and BT Sport 1 channels.

This isn’t a price that’s typically advertised online anywhere. At the time of writing, we were unable to find it anywhere on Sky’s upgrade page. This is a portal for existing Sky customers where discounted deals and bundles are advertised.

If you call up and talk to a Sky salesperson they should offer it to you if you ask.

The BT Sport Pack (which includes BT Sport 1 plus BT Sport 2, BT Sport ESPN and BT Sport Europe) otherwise costs £6/month extra with BT Broadband.

If you don’t take BT Broadband, BT Sport Lite isn’t an available option and the BT Sport Pack will cost you £21.66/month. If you’re only interested in sports channels for the Premier League coverage and you were going to get BT Broadband anyway, then going for BT Sport 1 on its own is a good option.

Can I get Sky Sports 1 and BT Sport 1 in HD?

What is HD? The difference between 720p, 1080i and 1080pYou can get both channels in HD, but as you’d expect, doing so makes things more expensive.

First of all in order to be able to pay Sky’s HD premium (£6) you need to subscribe to the Family Bundle (£38). With the cost of Sky Sports 1 included (£14) this already jumps to £58/month.

BT Sport 1 in HD costs an extra £5/month on top of BT Broadband (£5) and line rental (£18.99). This comes to £28.99/month in itself and with the cost of the Sky Family Bundle this totals £66.99/month.

With the cost of Sky Sports 1 and the Sky HD premium added, everything works out at £86.99.

Which is a lot of money. If you’re prepared to throw that kind of cash around every month you might consider going for the whole set of Sky Sports or BT Sport channels in the first place.

Even so, it might be that you just want to get one set of games in HD and you’re happy watching the rest in standard definition. Any way you want it, we’ve broken down all of the prices, to, er, paraphrase Journey
