Lawrence Dallaglio to captain BT Sport’s rugby union coverage

England rugby hero Lawrence Dallaglio has been signed up as chief pundit and co-commentator for BT Sport’s rugby union coverage.

The OBE’d former captain and member of England’s 2003 World Cup-winning team will be key to BT’s coverage of live Aviva Premiership matches from this summer on its new sports channel.

BT Sport will have 69 live games a year, plus the JP Morgan Asset Management Sevens and the French Top 14, on top of its 38 live Barclays Premier League football matches and much else.

Read more about BT Sport“I am genuinely thrilled to be joining BT Sport as its rugby expert,” said Dallaglio, who earned 88 caps with the national team and British Lions.

“BT has huge ambitions for rugby union and I am delighted to be involved with that from the beginning. I hope that we can make BT Sport the place to watch rugby and I know it has some great new ideas to really put the viewer at the heart of the action.”

Dallaglio is the latest high profile signing for BT Sport, alongside football anchor Jake Humphrey and sports magazine show host, Clare Balding. Georgie Thompson, who recently left Sky Sports F1, is also rumoured to be in BT’s sights.

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “Lawrence is a giant of rugby union and we are thrilled that he has agreed to play such a pivotal role across our rugby coverage. The insight and analysis he offers, gained through captaining his country and winning 85 caps, will be absolutely invaluable to BT Sport.”
