Lovefilm Instant gets MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon shows, Netflix loses

Lovefilm Instant has announced its latest content deal which will see shows from MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon hitting the streaming service in the UK.

The deal with the channels’ owner, Viacom, is a blow to Netflix, which previously boasted Nickelodeon shows like Dora The Explorer.

Details are very thin on the ground right now regarding which specific shows will be available on Lovefilm Instant over here, or how long parent company Amazon’s deal with Viacom will last.

A selection of these shows will be available in the UK, but Lovefilm’s UK spokespeople couldn’t tell us which right now. The new content will be available to stream ‘later this summer’, with a further announcement over the coming weeks.

Lovefilm, under Amazon’s wing, has recently begun to move into original productions with the Amazon Studios pilots, and buying exclusive series that can’t be seen on TV, such as Vikings.

Netflix’s deal with the Viacom-owned channels expired at the start of this week, when MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon titles disappeared from its libraries worldwide.
