Lovefilm updates LG smart TV app, adds playlists and improved search

The Lovefilm Instant app for LG smart TVs has been updated, bringing the Watchlist playlist feature and an improved search to the living room.

The new app features a redesigned interface that promises easier navigation. Combined with the improved search, Lovefilm says that this will make discovering shows easier. Watchlist lets you quickly compile a playlist of titles should you want to queue up a movie marathon or watch all of Copper and Vikings back to back.

The new interface has been designed to work with LG’s WiiMote-style Magic Remote Control peripheral, so you should be able to search for and select movies with gesture and voice controls.

Simon Morris, chief marketing officer at Lovefilm, says: “The improved search engine, user interface and other improvements make discovering new content easier than ever before, whilst the addition of popular features such as the Watchlist allow members to plan their viewing around their busy schedules.”

This is an update which we’ve seen rolled out to other smart TV platforms this year. The Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 all benefit from the same Watchlist and search improvements, as do Samsung Smart TVs and connected Blu-ray players.

The updated Lovefilm Instant app is available to download from the LG TV App Store now.
