Magic, Kiss, Heat, Kerrang! and more head online with Box TV

Box TV has launched a new online streaming service that brings the likes of Magic, Kiss, Heat and Kerrang! among others to the web, phones and tablets.

The service which also includes 4music, Smash Hits and Box lets music fans browse the seven music channels through one dedicated player and see what’s coming up on a programme guide – think of Box TV as a mini BBC iPlayer, but for music channels.

Kerrang! Needs more Motorhead, Maiden and Pantera if you ask us.

Powered by SimpleStream’s Media Manager software, the Flash Player-based service work on desktop, laptop as well as iOS and Android devices. It’s currently hosted over on 4music’s site.

Julie Wright, director of Box TV said “We have wanted to take our much-loved linear channels to a connected audience for quite some time and SimpleStream’s solution perfectly mirrored these aspirations. We know that editorialised music videos and music programming are still a key consumer choice for music discovery and to be able to offer this choice on the web, tablet and mobile, via SimpleStream’s solution is fantastic for consumer, advertisers and the music industry alike.”

As well as providing an online window to Box TV’s music channels, viewers will also be able to easily share what they’re currently watching thanks to a built in plugin that generates links for Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.

Despite reports elsewhere on the web, this service has not launched on Freeview and is not available on the 4music Freeview channel (channel 18). For the time being, this service is only available online.
