Mipow launches Bluetooth-controlled Playbulbs lights for your back yard

If you’ve ever wanted to control your garden’s ambient lighting with your phone then these new solar-powered lights from Mipow could be right up your, er, garden path.

The Playbulb Garden lights, which were developed by Hong Kong-based MiPOW, will pair with your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth, and will allow you to alter the colour they give off with a simple tap of your device’s screen.

The bulbs offer 16 million colours and can be daisy-chained together in a string of up to five at a time, to create a specific ambience for your outdoor space, or if you’re a more understated sort of person you can just as easily use one, though we’d imagine the overall effect will be a bit less Las Vegas and a bit more ‘LED in some mud’.

The accompanying app, Playbulb X is available on both Android and iOS devices, but you’ll need to be running iOS7 or later, Android 4.3 or later and have a device which offers Bluetooth 4.0 or above.

We can’t help but think that these little lights will lend a nice touch of ambience to even the bleakest of back gardens and at £39.99 a pop they aren’t going to break the bank. Hopefully, they’ll be a little more impressive than the Mipow’s music playing smart bulbs which were kind of OK, but not amazing

The big kicker in Mipow (pronounced MY-POW, in case you were wondering) marketing plan seems to be the fact that they’re going to hit the street in September, just after the summer – when everyone will have packed up their outdoor furniture ready for the onslaught of the delightful British autumn.
