Nest Cam hits UK shelves for £159

Nest Labs’s compact home security system Nest Cam goes on sale in the UK today for £159. 

The new Dropcam-esque unit boasts Full HD recording, a poseable metal stand with a magnetic base and crystal-clear night vision footage. 

The new Nest app 5.0 allows you to take control of the camera from your phone and zoom in up to 8x on specific parts of a video feed. 

Better still, it forms the latest part of Nest Labs’s growing smart home ecosystem. It’s been designed specifically to work with the new Nest Protect smoke alarm and Nest Learning Thermostat. 

The Nest Episode: New Nest Protect, Nest Cam and all-in one appShould your smoke alarm detect a fire, the Nest Cam will start recording automatically. Notifications sent to your phone will let you determine whether or not it’s an emergency or just someone at home accidentally triggering the alarm when they’re making toast. 

If you’ve signed up for Nest Aware, you’ll be able to store up to 10 days of video content in the cloud for £8/month, or 30 days’ worth of recording for £24/month. 

As well as giving you storage space for footage, Nest Aware also gives you the ability to stitch together clips and make timelapses up to three hours long, if you want to save montages of hilarious family pratfalls and Vine-style pranks. 

Nest Aware also gives you the ability to designate areas of interest within a Nest Cam’s 130 degree field of vision. This means you can make it concentrate on things like cat flaps, doors, windows and notify whenever motion is detected on theres areas.
