While the new iPad won’t be able to access superfast 4G when they (finally) hit the UK, the Option Beemo will.
A new USB dongle from the makers of the skinny XYFI, the Option Beemo promises fast quad-band connectivity. Operating on the 800/900/1800/2600 MHz spectrum, the Beemo ought to play ball with 4G in the UK once it’s finally available.
No word on price or a release date yet, or even dimensions. This press shot seems to suggest that your average honeybee could pick it up the Beemo and run away with it. Given the space-age weightlessness of the XYFI we’re expecting the Beemo to not weigh much at all and be incredibly light.
The press info for the Option Beemo mentions “proven superior heat dissipation” to keep things cool and an external antenna connector for improved performance in low signal areas.
There’s talk of white labelling plans, so it’s entirely possible that Orange, T-Mobile or Three will flog these once their 4G rollout plans come to fruition.
No more info on this as of yet though – we’ll keep you posted on the Option Beemo once we hear more.
