Orange TV Check iPhone and Android app launching this month

Orange TV Check, a second screen app in the style of GetGlue, is headed to an iPhone near you this month. The app, which is already available to owners of l’iPhone in France, lets you check in to programmes as you’re watching them, and eventually become a ‘Master’ of a programme.

Checking in is a cinch; all you need to do is point your iPhone’s camera at the TV screen and the Orange TV Check app will recognise the programme.

The free app will let you share your viewing habits with friends on Facebook and initiate conversations while earning points and badges in a similar vein to Foursquare and GetGlue.

Launching in the UK on iPhone this month, an Android version of Orange TV Check will also be headed to Google Play this month.

Chatting about programmes while they’re broadcasting is already a staple of the Twitter herd with programmes often flashing their own hashtags on the screen (#questiontime #HIGNFY etc) apps like Xbox Companion offering extra info on cast and crew and zeebox adding a dimension of extra product placement and commerce to second screen viewing.

Recombu Digital will be catching up with Orange later today so stay tuned for some hands-on action with the new app.
