Pure have launched the Sensia 200D Connect, a DAB digital radio that also plays music streamed from your iPhone or Android device.
Coming in a retro sci-fi style case, the Sensia 200D Connect comes in black or white and features a 7-inch colour touchscreen.
As well as displaying album art and radio station names, things like weather reports and internet radio stations can be accessed through the menus. It comes across a bit like an Archos 35 Home Connect styled look like a Thunderbrids prop.
While listening to radio stations through the Sensia 200D Connect, you’ve got the option to tag tracks, Last.fm-style with the remote. This keeps a log of all your bookmarked songs and gives you the option to buy tracks through Pure Music.
Pure Music costs £4.99 a month to subscribe to and is stocked by 7digital’s 19 million library of songs. So basically you should to be able to buy whatever you tag.
Pure Sensia 200D Connect specifications
There’s a USB port on the Sensia 200D Connect meaning you can store any songs you buy through the radio for later playback.
Sound-wise, you get 30 watts of clear digital sound via DSP-tuned class-D amps. You’re guaranteed sound ‘loud enough to fill a room’. It should be loud enough for your average kitchen and includes plus bass and treble controls, so you can fiddle around with the levels to your satisfaction.
Pure Stream: Stream music to the Sensia 200D Connect from your iPhone or Android phone
Perhaps the best thing about the Sensia 200D Connect is how it integrates with the Pure Lounge app.
Sending tracks from your phone to the Sensia 200D Connect happens via ‘Pure Stream’ which is based on DLNA.
To enable Pure Stream, you’ll need to update the Pure Lounge app to the latest version. The Android edition is available to play with now, but the iOS version is awaiting approval. It’s been submitted to the App Store and should be live in the next few days.
Eventually the apps will update to allow support for the Pure Contour 200i Air which we’ve reviewed here.
The Pure Sensia 200D is available to buy now for £250 from Pure. We’re getting one in to have a play around with so come back for a hands-on and first impressions.
