Robot vacuum transforms into mopping machine

Not content with robots taking over vacuuming our houses, iRobot has brought out a new robot capable of mopping your floors as well.

The iRobot Braava is a washing robot that is designed to systematically and efficiently mop the entire floor, dry or damp, in just one pass.

The robot mop has been built to complement iRobot’s Roomba vacuum and Scooba floor washer robots. The iRobot Braava Floor Mopping Robot automatically dry- and damp-mops hard floors. It uses two cleaning modes, keeping dirt and dust under control.

Its dry mop mode sweeps back and forth in straight lines using dry cleaning cloths to efficiently pick up dust, dirt and hair, while its damp mop mode uses a special back-and-forth mopping action and damp cleaning cloths to lift surface dirt and grime off floors.

Users can set off the robot to start its work with the push of a button. When it is done cleaning, the robot returns to where it started. Braava uses disposable or reusable cleaning cloths that are simple to attach and remove. It is whisper quiet, claimed iRobot, and features a soft-touch bumper and quiet motors, so it cleans without disrupting daily activity or sleep.

The moping robot uses NorthStar Navigation Cubes to map the room so it can clean as much of the room as possible. It can use multiple cubes to clean in larger homes.

It also comes with a turbo charge cradle accessory to recharge the robot in two hours. The Braava 380 is now available for £259.
