S4C on demand comes to TVPlayer

Welsh-language TV channel S4C has been added to mobile TV streaming app TVPlayer, letting Welsh speakers watch the channel from virtually anywhere in the UK.

The addition of S4C brings the number of TV channels on the TVPlayer platform to thirty-five. Earlier this year, 20 new channels including MTV’s Viva and Movies4Men joined the TV Player line-up.

TVPlayer, described by us as ‘Freeview+ for phones and tablets’ lets you tap in to a number of free to air channels including BBC One, Channel 4, ITV1, BBC News, Al Jazeera and Russia Today.

S4C broadcasts over 115 hours of television in the Welsh language each week and is the only Welsh language channel in the world providing a mix of entertainment, drama, sport, factual and cultural programming.

The channel has recently gained recognition for highly acclaimed dramas, including detective series Y Gwyll / Hinterland (pictured), currently being shown on BBC Four. The gritty drama, which had been favourably compared to The Killing and The Bridge, has been snapped up by Netflix in the US and Canada. S4C’s current thrilling mystery drama series, 35 Diwrnod (35 Days) has also received wide praise.

Elin Morris, S4C director of corporate and commercial policy said “TVPlayer offers a new way of accessing the Channel and the app gives people the freedom to watch on a wide variety of mobile devices. This provides an additional way for audiences to find and enjoy S4C’s content.”

Lewis Arthur, Platform Manager for TVPlayer, added: “We are excited to bring S4C onto our platform. TVPlayer increases channel reach via multiplatform viewing opportunities across web, mobile and tablet.”

TVPlayer can be watched online at www.tvplayer.com and can be downloaded for free from the App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Appstore
