Photographers can now upload their snaps and look through the viewfinder over a wireless network connection on Samsung’s latest compact cameras.
The NX-range features WiFi Smart, Samsung’s name for the WiFi Direct standard that lets devices set up high speed one-to-one connections using WiFi 802.11n.
The NX20, NX210 and NX1000 are compact system cameras with a 20.3 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, wide range ISO and 1080p Full HD stereo movie recording (that’s stereo audio, not stereoscopic).
Nick White, Head of Digital Imaging, Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland, said “The launch of the SMART NX Range marks an evolution in Samsung’s camera offering.
“With the inclusion of built in Wi-Fi, sharing your pictures has never been so simple and with the NX image quality they will be worth sharing. We are delighted to be offering this innovation in technology to our customers.”
Wi-Fi Smart enables photographers to instantly share and back up both images and video, connecting via WiFi networks to social networks such as Facebook, or sending to friends and family via email.
Images can also be shared at high speed between devices from phones to TVs on an ad-hoc connection at Wireless N’s full speed of up to 450Mbps, using Samsung’s Mobile Link and TV Link features.
Wi-Fi Smart also allows users to back up their pictures to either of two different Cloud services or to local network storage by using Auto Backup.
WiFi Smart is Samsung’s name for the WiFi Direct, but like most consumer electronics manufacturers they feel compelled to confuse the public by renaming it to look like something unique to their products.
The £899 NX20 is the flagship model, with a DSLR-style body, virtual viewfinder, 3in AMOLED swivel-display and compatibility with Samsung’s i-Function 2.0 lens range.
The £749 NX210 has a similar design and feature-list to the NX20, but uses a built-in with 18-55mm lens.
At £599 with a 20-50mm lens, the NX1000 is a high-end portable camera in white, black or pink, with a range of picture-processing features to make sharing easier and more fun.
