Sherlock, Line of Duty, The Fall, Lucan and Black Mirror are lined up for the new prize at Freesat’s annual Free TV Awards this summer.
Judges have announced their shortlists for the prizes to be awarded in 2014, alongside viewer votes for Best British TV Soap and Freesat Broadcast Personality of the Year.
Among the most coveted Freesat Awards 2014 are Channel of the Year and Best of British, with 50 shortlisted entries for the 10 categories.
Chair of the judging panel, Neil Midgley, said: “This year has been the Freesats’ biggest and best ever field of entries, across categories ranging from children’s TV to factual to sitcom.
“The result is a cracking set of shortlists, reflecting a truly vintage year for free-to-air television in the UK.
“Everyone is gripped by their favourite TV dramas – and this year the Freesat Free TV Awards will celebrate the very best with a new category, dedicated solely to British drama.”
The drama shortlist includes BBC Two’s cult hits The Fall and Line of Duty, BBC One’s ratings champion Sherlock, ITV’s Lucan and Channel 4’s Black Mirror.
CBeebies adds flavour to a bland list of potential best channel winners featuring BBC Two, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5.
Double-nominations this year go to only Sherlock (also tipped for Best of British) and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, which is up for both Best of British and Best Live TV Programme.
Online voting is now open for the viewer awards, and the winners will be revealed at the Freesat Awards on June 17.
