Sky drops Line Rental Saver

Sky has quietly dropped its Line Rental Saver package for its subscribers.

This means that subscribers will be forced to pay Sky a monthly line rental for their landline phones of £15.40 instead of the equivalent of £9.95 per month through the deal.

A spokesperson told ISPreview that the upfront line rental service had been withdrawn just before Christmas (19 December 2013) but the withdrawal would not affect customers who had taken up the offer previously. Sky did not explain why this decision was taken.

However, according to comments on Sky’s customer forum, the service may have been removed because of unspecified technical issues surrounding its billing and account management systems.

In 2012, the company look as if it had withdrawn the offer leading to confusion among customers and call centre staff. Following an outcry from disgruntled subscribers, Sky was forced to issue a statement that the offer was still available to customers.

Should the savings offer stay withdrawn, the increased price of the line rental puts it at a competitive disadvantage with the likes of TalkTalk and even BT.

Sky has confirmed to ISPreview that it has no plans at the present time to bring back the savings offer.
