Sky Go sets February 22 date with Android viewers

Sky Go on AndroidA lucky few Samsung and HTC Android smartphone users will be able to watch the Sky Go service from February 22.

The video streaming app will be available on the UK’s most popular Android phones first (excluding popular handsets that can’t run a demanding video app).

The launch release will go to HTC Desire, HTC Desire S, HTC Desire HD, HTC Incredible S, HTC Sensation, Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy S2.

Sky Go has been available for several months for the iPad and iPhone, but Android was only scheduled for February’s end.

There’s no timetable for releasing Sky Go to other devices, but the rollout is likely to reach other devices in order of popularity.

Sky Go is free to subscribers of the satellite TV service, and provides a selection of live TV channels, streaming video and downloads, based on your subscription.

There’s also a standalone subscription for non-satellite subscribers, and each subscription lets you use Sky Go on up to two PCs or mobile devices, plus an Xbox360 or set-top box.
