Sky Movies is showing Groundhog Day on repeat today. Sky Movies is showing Groundhog Day on repeat today.

Sky Movies is repeatedly broadcasting hit nineties comedy Groundhog Day in honour of the Pennsylvanian custom of the same name.

Groundhog Day is typically celebrated on February 2, and involves locals gathering to watch the first groundhogs emerge from hibernation.

In the film which brought wider attention to the festival, Bill Murray plays a curmudgeonly weatherman who himself stuck in a time loop. Thus the term ‘Groundhog Day’ gained international currency as a modern stand-in for the ancient Greek myth of Sisyphus, the wretched soul who was forced to push a boulder to the top of a hill every day – only for it to roll back down again upon reaching the summit.

Perhaps aware of the fact that everyone loves Bill Murray and there’s due to be a stage adapation of the film hitting the Old Vic later this year, Sky has made good use of its multi-year content deal with Paramount Pictures by lining up an entire day’s worth of Groundhog Day broadcasts on Sky Movies Comedy.

Sky Movies Comedy is available as part of Sky Movies bundles for Sky TV, Virgin TV, BT TV and TalkTalk TV customers. Now TV subscribers with a £9.99/month Movies pass can also stream Sky Movies Comedy. We’ve rounded up all of the Sky Movies prices and deals here so you don’t have to.
