Sky News has updated the Android version of its smartphone app with a new look, a technology news section and live reports back to the Sky Newsroom.
The update brings Sky News on Android in line with the iPhone version, which was updated in March.
Android users can now swipe between Top Stories, UK News, World News, Politics, Business, Technology, Entertainment, Strange news and Sport, with video and photo galleries accessible alongside traditional text stories.
The app can also host live blogs, images galleries, graphs and interactive images as required, while users can upload their own pictures and stories direct to the Sky newsroom.
Andrew Hawken, Head of Editorial, Sky News Digital commented “We are very pleased to announce the launch of this much awaited app.
“We continuously seek to provide our customers with the best user experience possible across multiple platforms and the features this app delivers are another step towards achieving this.”
The Sky News app for Android is available on all handsets that support Android OS2.1 and above, and can be downloaded free from Google Play.
Over 5.5 million customers have now downloaded Sky News apps across multiple devices, and like other Sky apps, it lets Sky customers access their Sky account to see their bill, reset their PIN, setup remote recordings, configure your Sky remote to control your TV, and check on the status of Sky services like broadband.
