Sky Sports has secured broadcast rights to La Liga games for the next three seasons.
Coverage rights for the premier Spanish football league games were thought to have been snapped up by BT Sport, only for Sky Sports to steam in at the 89th minute and secure the deal. Sky’s bid may well have been motivated by the recent launch of BT Sport Europe.
BT’s new channel is home to UEFA Champions League games, which were previously broadcast on Sky Sports 5.
La Liga games have been shown on Sky Sports for nearly two decades and the latest deal will see the broadcaster remain the UK’s home for top Spanish football until 2019.
