Sky Sports Open Day August 16: free Premier League on Sky, Virgin Media and Talk Talk TV

The Barclays Premier League is upon us for another year and Sky Sports is free for a day across Sky, Virgin Media and Talk Talk TV so you can have a taste.

The complete Sky Sports package is open to try for 24 hours from 6am on Saturday, August 16, for the three pay-TV platforms where you can get all seven channels with different special offers.

Will it be free broadband for two years with Sky, a 10-month season ticket on Virgin Media, or three months half price with no contract on TalkTalk TV? We’ll help you decide.

Now the British weather’s revealed it was pretending to be summer all along and football fans can cast off that desperate look they’ve had since the end of the World Cup.

While there are also Barclays Premier League games on BT Sport, the key signing for the Sky squad is dedicated European football channel Sky Sports 5.

If you’ve got a Sky+HD box, you’ll also be able to see Sky Sports 1HD, 2HD, 3HD, 4HD and 5HD as well as Sky Sports F1 HD (although F1’s still on its annual summer break).

A packed day includes not only the English Premier League, but Sky Bet Championship and league matches, tennis, boxing, international test cricket, PGA golf, rugby (both flavours) and the start of the Dutch Eredivisie:

  • Cricket: England vs. India 5th Test Day 2 (Sky Sports 2, 10.30am)
  • Rugby union: Australia vs New Zealand (Sky Sports 4, 10.30am)
  • Football: Gillette Soccer Saturday (Sky Sports 5 and Sky Sports News HQ, 12pm)
  • Sky Bet Championship: Leeds vs Middlesbrough (Sky Sports 1, 12.15pm)
  • Scottish Premiership: Celtic vs Dundee United (Sky Sports 3, 12.15pm)
  • Golf: European Tour (Sky Sports 4, 1.15pm)
  • Rugby union: South Africa vs Argentina (Sky Sports 3, 3.30pm)
  • Barclays Premier League: Arsenal vs Crystal Palace (Sky Sports 1, 5.30pm)
  • Golf: PGA Tour (Sky Sports 4, 6pm)
  • Dutch Eredivisie: PSV Eindhoven v NAC Breda (Sky Sports 5, 5.30pm)
  • Top 14 Rugby League: Montpellier vs Racing Metro (Sky Sports 2, 7.30pm)
  • Tennis: Cincinnati Masters (Sky Sports 3, 8pm)
  • Boxing: Live Fight Night (Sky Sports 1, 2am)

None of the UK’s pay-TV services are forcing you into a decision just yet, with the current special offers open until the end of September.
