Sky’s Now TV on-demand service has arrived on LG Smart TVs in its first TV deal exclusive for at least 12 months.
New LG TV buyers will get a three-month credit for Sky Movies on Now TV and three 24-hour passes for Sky Sports.
The Now TV app will be pre-loaded on new LG TVs, and free to download for 2012 models, but existing TV owners won’t get a free credit.
“LG Smart TV owners will be able to stream Sky Movies and live Sky Sports exclusively for at least a year.
“The user interface for Now TV on LG Smart TV has been a significant R&D project, which has been going on for more than a year.”
Now TV doesn’t need an existing Sky subscription, just a broadband connection, and delivers an adaptive stream that’s near-DVD quality under the best streaming conditions.
Sky Movies access costs £15/month for a library of on-demand films and access to all 11 Sky Movies live streaming channels. It’s £9.99 for 24 hours of Sky Sports, with all six Sky Sports channels streamed live.
Now TV from Sky was unveiled in London last night, or as LG’s Korean press release was translated by Google:
