TalkTalk East Anglia outage: what’s happening?

What’s the latest on TalkTalk’s East Anglia outage?

BT Openreach expects to return all affected areas to full service by the end of today. TalkTalk says: “Engineers are working to repair a BT Openreach fibre optic cable in East Anglia, after it was damaged. We are sorry for for any inconvenience this outage has caused.”

Internet and phone services for TalkTalk customers have been out of action since 2.55pm on July 26 at 12 exchanges in East Anglia.

What’s the cause?

Building work damages fibre cables connecting TalkTalk customers to 12 exchanges in the East Anglia region. The damage was not malicious, says BT Openreach.

When will it be fixed?

BT Openreach, the BT division which manages its broadband infrastructure, was on site quickly. Some customers were restored by midday and Openreach expected full services to be restored by the end of Friday, July 27.
