TalkTalk, Sky, Netflix and YouView walked away with glittering gongs at Recombu Digital’s inaugural awards for the best in broadband and TV.
Instead of the boring categories you’ll see from lesser broadband and digital TV sites, we created four awards which reflect Recombu Digital’s unique character.
Best Broadband & TV Package: TalkTalk Plus TV
We were very impressed with Sky’s Bundles and the Virgin Media Collections, but the outstanding winner now leads a clear and simple range of great value broadband and TV deals with optional pay-as-you-go-boosts.
The YouView platform has a lot more to offer, but it’s a straightforward upgrade from Freeview for millions of potential homes, while the pay-as-you-go TV Boosts offer a genuine alternative to the inflexible traditional model of annual subscription packages.
Best TV Companion App: the Sky app family
Though Virgin’s TV Anywhere, SyFy Sync and Zeebox are all exciting companion apps, we really like the planning which has produced a complete family of apps for the many needs which come from having more than 10 million TV customers, from Sky+ to Sky Go, with the Sky app family.
So far we’ve counted 11, covering sports, arts, and movies as well as remote control and viewing on the move. Find out more in our Sky apps guide.
Best On Demand TV Service: Netflix
There’s now a great choice of on-demand TV services, but one company has consistently set the agenda and taken the fight to traditional pay-TV providers, and that’s Netflix.
Whether it’s creating high quality original content, ensuring near-universal availability wherever there are eyeballs to be entertained, or continually innovating with new features to meet user demands, Netflix has shown the way for on-demand video services.
Broadband and Digital TV Game Changer: YouView
EE 4G, Virgin Speed Doubling, and B4RN’s community fibre were all in the running, but we think the most disruptive product launch this year has been YouView.
The platform has barely begun to realise its potential, but it’s already introduced new competition into the UK’s two-horse pay-TV market, as well as providing a roadmap that will help free TV remain relevant into the future.
We’d like to thank the Cuckoo Club for hosting a very enjoyable event, and to our guests for making it so much fun. Here’s to the Recombu Awards 2014!
