TalkTalk WiFi calling app Talk2Go coming in October

TalkTalk is preparing to launch Talk2Go, a mobile app that lets you make and receive calls over WiFi.

In a similar manner to Virgin Media’s SmartCall service, calls made over Talk2Go will deduct minutes from your TalkTalk home phone call plan rather than your mobile allowance.

TalkTalk Business announced the app, due to launch on the iTunes App Store and Google Play in October.

Got no signal but got strong WiFi? TalkTalk's Talk2Go might be the one or you.

It’s not clear if the service will also come to TalkTalk’s residential broadband customers but given that Virgin Media and EE have either launched or have talked about launching WiFi calling services for non-business punters, we expect that TalkTalk will roll this out to everyone.

TalkTalk Business customers with the Simply Broadband and Complete Broadband packages will be able to make and receive calls when connected to WiFi. You’ll be able to make calls at the standard UK rate even when you’re abroad and answer calls even when a colleague is using the business line.

Very much a product aimed at small businesses, customers will be able to pair their business line with up to five mobile devices. Presumably if TalkTalk were to roll this out to its residential customers as well, each family member would be able to make use of Talk2Go in a similar fashion.

Minimum specs for the mobile apps haven’t been announced yet, but we’d expect the great majority of iOS and Android phones to work with Talk2Go.
