TalkTalk’s Huawei YouView boxes updated with channel filters UPDATED

TalkTalk YouView customers will be able group similar channels together for easy navigation when they pick up the latest software update.

UPDATE 24/7/13: TalkTalk has supplied some more information about the update – read on for more.

The upgrade for Talk Talk’s Huawei-produced boxes is being rolled out over the next week and will add new features as well as fixing bugs seen since the last update at the end of March.

Phil, the official voice on the YouView customer forum, wrote: “An update will be made available for all customers on Talk Talk with a Huawei YouView box over the next week.

“This will be a phased roll-out managed by Talk Talk so some customers will get it sooner than others.”

Read Recombu Digital’s guides to TalkTalk TV and YouViewChannel Filters allows users to quickly sort their channels by Entertainment, HD, News, Shopping and Travel, Children’s, News and Lifestyle.

Unwanted channels can be flitered out by pressing Guide and the yellow button to enter a channel-list editing mode.

A new-look timeshift buffer bar on recording playback and paused TV now shows more information about how much live TV you have stored on your box, and how much space remains.

Bug fixes include mono audio replacing stereo on recordings, and playback freezes when fast-forward or rewinding through ad breaks in recordings on ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.

Following the update, the software version displayed in Settings/System Information/Software Versions should be 12.29.05, from 12.27.07.

YouView said Huawei YouView box owners who have bought their boxes second-hand on eBay, or are nto on TalkTalk for another reason, will still get the update.

The next major update will enable internet-streamed TV Boost subscription channels from the TalkTalk Player to be listed in the YouView Guide alongside Freeview channels broadcast over the air.

TalkTalk said: “We’re working on other improvements to YouView from TalkTalk and can’t wait to show them off to our customers as soon as they have been tried and tested.”

Tomorrow (July 24) will see the publication of TalkTalk’s latest quarterly financial results, including subscriber figures for broadband and TV.

TalkTalk’s most recent figures, for the three months to end of March, saw it add 150,000 TV subscribers to reach 230,000 since the launch of TalkTalk TV powered by YouView, in October 2013.

NOTE: TalkTalk initially denied the existence of this update, but it turned out to be nothing more than a communication hiccough between them and YouView. Thanks to YouView Update for alerting us to TalkTalk’s mistake.
