That’s strong growth for a young product, but still a long way behind the almost five million British homes which have a Sky+HD box.
Overall, Virgin lost 13,400 TV customers – falling slightly to 3.78m – but it added 13,700 paying TV subscribers who don’t get a basic free TV package.
This means that 3.3m Virgin TV customers, or 87 per cent of its total, are now paying for TV channels, which is good for the bottom line as Virgin heads towards joining the global Liberty Media cable empire.
Today’s Virgin Media results mark the opening of first-quarter season for the TV industry, so we can expect updates from Sky, BT and TalkTalk in the next few weeks.
