Virgin Media is now offering broadband customers F-Secure SAFE protection for up to five devices.
Customers can apply F-Secure SAFE’s anti-virus, parental controls and browsing protection software to Windows and Mac desktop and laptops, smartphones and tablets.
Parents have the option of enabling call, text and picture message blocking software to prevent unwanted calls. Similar to TalkTalk’s MobileSafe product, access to unsuitable material can be blocked even if the device is connected to an unfiltered public WiFi network.
Read Recombu Digital’s guide to Parental Internet ControlsF-Secure SAFE lets parents create PIN-protected profiles for children which can be tailored to block access to individual sites. Access to popular sites like YouTube and Facebook can be blocked during certain times of day, which is useful for parents who want to enforce homework hours.
DeepGuard 5 technology will keep F-Secure’s block lists updated so that new and emerging threats and exploits can be combatted.
Joe Lathan, director of broadband at Virgin Media said: “F-Secure SAFE will help keep our customers safe online, enabling them to choose the level of protection that’s right for them.
“We’re going to be working closely with F-Secure to ensure all our customers understand the best ways to stay safe online and, alongside our forthcoming whole-home solution, we’re providing all the tools and helping our customers make the right choices for them and their household.”
F-Secure SAFE is worth £79.99 but is available to all Virgin Media broadband customers with free for a year. After then, customers have the option of renewing for £25 up front or £7.50 every three months for another year’s worth of F-Secure SAFE. Paying the larger up front sum sees you saving £10, but either way it’s a generous discount.
In addition to upgrading its device-level security software with F-Secure SAFE, Virgin Media is developing its forthcoming new whole-home solution that will help protect any devices that connect to customers’ home broadband. Combining this with F-Secure means that Virgin Media subscribers can be protected in and out of the home.
