Virgin Media TiVo viewers can now Play Games

Virgin Media TiVo owners will be now able to dip in and out of casual games in the ad breaks thanks to the launch of Play Games.

Games like Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and Scooby’s Creepy Cake Factory are already available to TiVo customers and are joined by two new titles, Mahjong and Darts Darts Darts

The new update also means that players will be able to save their progress on the Flash-based titles. Two Way Media, Virgin Media’s game development partner is hoping that more developers will get on board and pad out the offerings on TiVo.

Read Recombu Digital’s guide to Virgin Media TiVoTwo Way Media chief executive James Turner said: “Virgin Media’s TiVo platform makes it very easy for their customers to find and play games, and their growing subscriber base provides an excellent opportunity for developers to generate meaningful revenues from their games.”

Charlotte Reece, senior product and commercial manager for Tivo at Virgin Media added: “The introduction of Play Games will give causal gaming a great new look on TiVo and the addition of extra games will add even more entertainment to what is the UK’s most advanced connected TV service.

“With 1.5 million households across the country already enjoying all that TiVo has to offer, we’re giving developers access to a whole new audience and the chance to bring new ideas and even more fun to home entertainment.”

Casual games have been played over one million times on TiVo this year already. Games developed for TiVo will unlikely be any more advanced than the casual fare mentioned above. While the idea of a TiVo box doubling as a stand in for a games console is exciting if anyone wants to indulge in some more advanced gaming, well, that’s what your PS3’s and Xbox 360’s are for.
