Virgin Media broadband customers across most of the UK lost their connections for at least an hour last night following a ‘routing hardware’ fault.
Customers began noticing problems at around 5.30pm, and while some areas were reconnected within two hours, others took longer.
The outage sparked an avalanche of calls which overwhelmed Virgin’s customer service, with most callers receiving an engaged tone.
A Virgin Media spokesperson said: “Our customers may have experienced some problems getting online yesterday evening. Our engineers quickly fixed the problem and service was restored by 8pm. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
However, some online reports claimed their broadband was still not restored by 11pm – although all areas appeared to have been fixed by this morning.
