BT YouView customers are chafing at the inaility to record BT Sport and other streaming TV channels.
Despite YouView has been out for over a year now and BT Sport launching in August, BT Sport can’t be recorded as YouView hardware currently can’t record internet-based channels in the same way it can the regular digital terrestrial channels.
Read Recombu Digital’s guide to YouViewWith the Aviva Premiership kicking off tonight, rugby fans with BT YouView would be better off watching the games live or resorting to workarounds like using a video capture card if they wanted to watch games later.
The BT Vision+ box will let you record games, but currently only broadcasts BT Sport in SD on digital terrestrial. You can get both BT Sport SD and HD channels on BT Vision, if you have a fibre-based BT Infinity broadband service which is not available everywhere.
Anyone wanting to record games in a more convenient fashion will have to wait until a forthcoming update lands and unfortunately, there’s no set date for this. A source told Recombu Digital:
“Record functionality for YouView from BT customers with Internet channels (including BT Sport) will be available this Autumn.”
YouView has previously announced that extra channels delivered over broadband connections should be live by autumn. Linear channels will be mixed with internet channels in the programme guide. You’ll be able to set reminders and recordings for these new channels in the same way you normally would on YouView, making good use of the Now & Next and Search features.
