Xbox One SmartGlass app comes to Windows Phone

Microsoft has unveiled its Xbox One SmartGlass app for Windows Phone. The app has been launched ahead of this Friday’s release of the console.

The companion app will allow gamers to connect to and control their console bothin the living room and on the go. It allows a smartphone to act as both a remote and a controller. Gamers can watch DVR clips on the go as well as browser Xbox live and message friends.

The app will also enable players to pin content to the home screen of the console, track achievements and get in-game help.

The app is also available for Android devices as well as the iPhone and iPad.

“Xbox One SmartGlass is the perfect companion app for your Xbox One, both in your living room and on the go. Connect and control your Xbox One”, reads the official description in the app stores. “Stay connected with the games and gamers you like. And add a new dimension to your console entertainment with the mobile device you already own.”

“Connecting Xbox One SmartGlass to your Xbox One is easy,” said a statement on the Xbox Wire site. “Just use the same wireless network on your Xbox One SmartGlass-enabled device as your Xbox One and open the app to automatically connect to your console.

One SmartGlass Companion available when the console comes out is the Dead Rising 3 mobile. This will reskin a smartphone to resemble the one in the game itself. It will allow gamers to take calls and receive missions from in-game characters.

Bitter console rival Sony is also to release its PS4 Link app that will provide similar functionality to the SmartGlass app. This app will enable Remote Play and Second Screen gaming for the PS Vita.
