Yahoo Screen launches on Apple TV

Just a month after Yahoo launched its Yahoo Screen app for iOS devices, it has launched its app for Apple TV.

Yahoo Screen on Apple TV will let viewers watch shows like Saturday Night Live, The Colbert Report and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. It also offers live news and events, music, as well as original Yahoo programs through the Apple device.

According to a blog posting by Yahoo, the launch of the app is “just the beginning  of our effort to bring you the best possible video experience, on any of your devices – iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Apple TV – at any place or time.”

The app also features content from Vogue, Fashion & Beauty, GQ, and Popsugar as well as sports from the likes of college football, UFC and MLB.

Yahoo Screen will be available following a software update to Apple TV. Also available will be content through a new PBS app. The US public broadcaster, the equivalent of the BBC in the UK, will brings full-length episodes of Frontline, American Masters, Nature and Masterpiece.

The PBS app requires users to log into the app via Facebook or Google+. Following this, users can see PBS content by identifying their local PBS affiliate.

The app will also show programmes such as American Experience’s JFK, Nova’s Cold Case JFK and Secrets of the Dead’s JFK: One PM Central Time.

The Apple TV device has received only a minor update and no new hardware since March of last year, prompting speculation that a new Apple TV device is in the offing.

At present both apps will only be available in the US.
