Richard Halton, CEO of YouView, said: “We are delighted to give YouView customers the best in free-to-air functionality. New BBC iPlayer and BBC Connected Red Button are just two of the many ways we’re evolving and improving the YouView on demand TV service, ensuring seamless and easy access to great TV for everyone.”

Connected Red Button has been a feature of Virgin Media TiVo since 2012 and Samsung and Sony smart TVs since January this year. There’s currently no plans to bring Connected Red Button to Sky+HD, for technical reasons.

BBC iPlayer on YouView has also been revamped. As well as letting viewers watch content from the last 30 days, new categories including documentaries, food, arts, history and science and nature have been added.

TV shows are now also grouped together in themed collections, seasons and events, making it even easier to find the programmes you want.

YouView is a digital TV platform that blends terrestrial TV with catch-up content delivered over a broadband connection. Viewers can access a suite of on-demand services through a dedicated menu or by scrolling backwards through the programme guide to find the shows they want.

Catch-up content from BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD (to be renamed All4) and Demand 5 is all available through YouView as is Dave, Really, Yesterday, S4C, STV (only in Scotland) Milkshake! Now TV (currently Sky Movies only) and more recently, Quest

Humax YouView boxes bought off the shelf (‘retail’ YouView boxes) and BT-branded YouView hardware will get the Connected Red Button/new iPlayerupdate first. Updates will start rolling out today in a staggered manner.

TalkTalk TV boxes will get Connected Red Button soon, but no ETA has been announced yet.
