YouView iOS update lets you search by genre

YouView has rolled out a minor tweak to its iOS app that allows viewers to search by genre.

The app, available on iOS devices, comes with a new TV Categories section, which allows viewers to browse TV and radio programmes by genre.

It will also give users a friendly reminder to connect the YouView app to their YouView+ set top box to ensure you get the most out of the app.

YouView has at present no known plans to update Android devices with the same functionality. Its last update to Android devices enabled viewers to review recording requests and see which ones have failed to record.

An update to the YouView iOS app in March included a new Bookings feature that aimed to iron out potential recording clashes. It also let users review recording requests from the new Bookings screen.

YouView is currently bracing itself for trouble on a couple of fronts. Recently, a High Court judge ruled that YouView had infringed another company’s trademark and the TV service could be forced to change its name.

More recently, Freeview and Digital UK have announced plans to develop the next generation of Freeview which promises to blend digital terrestrial TV with on-demand content.

On the surface, this sounds very similar to what YouView already does. Freeview however has been around for longer and is a more well known brand. YouView set top boxes, which launched in 2012, has been bought by 1 million UK homes whereas 11 milion UK homes have Freeview TVs or boxes.

You can download the new iOS YouView app from iTunes now.
