Netflix could soon be heading to BT and TalkTalk YouView boxes.
The streaming service has reportedly entered talks with YouView, which could see the streaming service coming to set top boxes in time for Christmas.
It’s unsure if the deal would see Netflix coming to regular YouView customers, those who’ve bought a YouVIew box off the shelf, or if you’ll only be able to get Netflix bundled in to BT or TalkTalk TV subscriptions.
A report in the FT says that you’ll be able to bundle Netflix subscriptions – normally priced at £5.99/month – with BT and TalkTalk TV subscriptions.
Netflix has similar deals with other TV providers around the world including Deutsche Telekom in Germany and Bouygues in France.
Such a deal would mean Sky is the only pay TV provider without the streaming service, despite it having the largest pay TV subscriber base and the second largest TV customer base overall.
Earlier in the year, Sky signed a deal with Paramount, meaning it would get exclusive rights on content made by the programme maker, blocking Netflix out of the running.
Sky already had first dibs on selected movies including Noah, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. The Sky-owned streaming service Now TV is available on YouView, but currently you can only get Sky Movies on demand, unless you’ve got a TalkTalk YouView box, in which case you can get Sky Sports daily and weekly passes too.
