UKTV Play brings Dave and Really to iPhone, iPad, PC and YouView

Dave on Demand and Really are set to be rolled into a single service – UKTV Play – which is coming to iOS devices, PC and YouView this summer.

iPhone and iPad owners will be able to stream episodes of Storage Hunters, Crackanory and Dara O Briain: School of Hard Sums later this summer while everyone else will be able to stream from PCs later this summer.

The current Dave on Demand mobile app and online services will be relaunched as UKTV Play. The new service will also replace the Dave and Really catch-up players on YouView later this year.

Darren Childs, UKTV chief executive said: “UKTV Play will be as easy as switching on your TV.

“We will curate content by topics and events, so UKTV Play will take away the difficulty that some viewers find with video on demand: choosing what it is they want to watch.”

It’s not yet known if the catch up service for Yesterday, currently a feature of the YouView catch up menu, will be rolled into the service or if it will remain separate for the time being.

UKTV said that it will feature box sets of series including Lizard Lick Towing, 24 Hours to Go Broke, Black Ops and Museum Secrets on UKTV in the future, but hasn’t commented if content from other free channels like Drama, or pay channels like Gold, Good Food or Eden will arrive on the service.

UKTV says that viewers would be able to find their favourite shows easily thanks to predictive search which begins combing for programme names automatically. Parents can also set restrictions on certain programmes to protect younger viewers.

No launch date for the iOS app has been mentioned yet and there’s no word if an Android equivalent is in the pipeline.
