YouView for Android remote record app: Hands-on video review

YouView for Android is finally here. The Android faithful prayed and the YouView gods spoke. We’ve put together this quick hands-on video review to show you what all the fuss is about.

The main function of the app is the ability for Android phone and tablet owners to set recordings remotely. Once you’ve paired your Android device with your YouView box at home, you’ll be able to set recordings on the go wherever there’s a data connection available to you.

Patience is a virtue: YouView customers with Android phones have been champing at the bit for this app

Browsing the virtual programme guide on the app is easy and intuitive. You scroll left to see what programmes have already broadcast and sweep right to go forwards in time, as you would if you were navigating the YouView EPG with your remote.

Once you’ve found the programmes you want to record, simply tap on the programme icon and then tap the red record button that appears top right. Where available, you’ll have the option to remote record an entire series or just a single programme.

Right now you don’t have the option to manage or delete recordings remotely, something we’d love to see in future updates. Searching for programmes on the app isn’t as easy as it is on the YouView box. We’d like it if you could search for programmes by name or by the name of an actor or starring celebrity.

YouView has expressed a desire to have updates for both the Android and the iOS YouView apps released simultaneously, so that Android users won’t be caught out waiting again.

You can download YouView for Android on Google Play now. Watch our hands-on video below to see how it works.
