You read that headline right. More than 3.5 million people have downloaded Vuvuzela 2010 from Apple’s App Store, making it the most popular buzzing-plastic-horn simulator on iPhone bar none.
What’s more, the developer behind it – a Dutch company called Moblio.nl – is absolutely coining it in, despite the app being free. According to mobile advertising company AdMob, whose ads are in the app, the developer is making tens of thousands of dollars a week from those adverts.
Right now, lots of people are looking to make money from vuvuzela mania – both on the App Store, and out in the real world. Even Sainsbury’s is selling them now, ensuring that landfill sites around the UK will be more colourful places in about three weeks’ time. It seems Moblio.nl is doing the best job on iPhone, despite dozens of buzzy rivals.
