You’ve got to love online translations. This story coming to us by way of French blog monwindowsphone says that the Windows Phone-running Acer Allegro says “The phone will be sold bare naked [for] €299 in France” when we ran the original text through Google Translate.
Obviously they mean that it’ll be sold SIM-free and unlocked but it still raised a few sniggers from the less mature in the ranks at Recombu Towers.
The phone which we’ve heard of before under the name of the Acer W4, has a pretty standard spec list that’s complaint with Windows Phone’s minimum requirements:
-
11.6 x 5.9 x 13mm
-
Weight 126g
-
LCD 3.6-inch WVGA (480×800)
-
Qualcomm MSM8255 processor 1GHz
-
Storage capacity of 8GB
-
5-megapixel camera with LED flash
-
1300mAh battery with autonomy of 6 hours talk time
-
Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
-
Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n
-
Accelerometer
-
Proximity sensor
-
light sensor
-
accounts
-
A-GPS
The stats might be par for the course but they’re pretty respectable nonetheless. At €299, which works out at around £260 in UK money, it ought to be available for free on some pretty competitive contracts.
That said, it’s not as cheap as Nokia’s Lumia 710, priced at €270, which converts to £235 and has a slightly faster processor (1.4GHz) to boot. Jury’s out on whether this phone will be coming to the UK as well, so this could be a moot point.
We spoke to Acer UK who had “no official comment” on the availability of the Allegro/W4 over here, we’ll of course update here as soon as we get any whiff of official news.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.
