Christmas is full of traditions: presents under the tree, a roast turkey, crackers and party hats, but before all of these things, kids (and sometimes grown-ups) get something to help build the excitement and anticipation in the run up to the big day; an advent calendar.
Those into tradition might make their own, whilst others likely opt for calendars of the chocolate-filled variety, but this year we’re looking at a truly modern interpretation, an advent calendar to carry with you wherever you go on your smartphone – Advent 2012: 25 Christmas Apps.
Developed by MagicSolver, a company who’ve built their business on app recommendations have spent a lot of time in this field and this year’s edition is the fourth advent calendar since the company began releasing them in 2009. Each day users will be able to open the appropriate ‘door’ under which they’ll find a mini game to play, the first day sees the player cookie crunching a Santa cookie against the clock, the faster you complete the game, the higher your score. The app then ties into Game Centre on iOS, so that players can compete with their friends in friendly, festive trials.
Passed the mini game, users are then granted to a free app, selected by MagicSolver’s own editorial team. The 25 apps available to users are a mix of free and paid titles, from a variety of backgrounds, although do expect to see a candy cane or an elf pop up more than once in the rundown. All the apps downloaded via Advent 2012 are free and come Christmas eve, you will have already amassed a pretty extensive list of early presents, including some from some big name publishers.
Head on over to the App Store or Google Play ahead of the first window being made available tomorrow and get downloading. Happy Christmas!
NOTE: Mini games are only available on the iOS version of the app. Android version available on Google Play from December 1st.
